Young people looking to make a difference in Reading are being encouraged to sign-up and take part in the annual youth-cabinet elections.
Future politicos aged 11 to 18 years old have until the 5th November to register for the elections, after which they will be given support to put together a manifesto and a publicity campaign for their candidacy. If their fellow young people elect them onto the cabinet, the candidates can then put themselves forward to be Readings Member of Youth Parliament.
The elections themselves will happen between 3rd and 14th December in schools and youth-friendly venues across the town, with the ballot count and announcement on the 18th December, in the Reading Civic Centre.
Reading Youth Cabinet is an elected group who represent the young people in the town, and ensure they have a strong and meaningful voice. They work closely with councillors and council officers to ensure the needs of young people are considered in how services are delivered, as well as with a range of other organisations such as the Police and health-services. They also work on their own campaigns. This year, the main campaign has focussed on health, and in particular, how to build awareness around Mental Health issues for young people.
