Celebrate Older People’s Day at Free Town Centre Event
22/09/2014
Reading Borough Council Press Release
OLDER people are being invited to a free celebratory event in Reading town centre.
The ‘Making a Positive Contribution in Reading’ event will showcase activities including zumba and dancing as ways that older people can stay fit and healthy. Older people can just enjoy the entertainment or try out something new. A ‘Singing for the Brain’ session is being offered for people with dementia and their carers.
The event will also celebrate grandparents and how their grandchildren value the time they spend together.
There will be plenty of time to browse some of the information stalls from organisations like Berkshire Carers Service, Age UK Reading/Berkshire and Reading Museum.
Practical advice from Berkshire Carers Service (BCS) on caring in old age and feedback from the Council’s recent benefits take-up campaign are also on the agenda.
The event is taking place at St Laurence’s Church, Friar Street on Wednesday 1st October, from 10.30am-3.30pm.
Lead Member for Adult Social Care, Cllr Rachel Eden said:
“Reading’s older people do so much for our town, from volunteering with charities, to looking after grandchildren or other family members, to work and civic life.
“This event will celebrate the positive contribution that older people make to our community and signpost them to other services and activities that can help them to live life to the full.”
