Council’s Care Home the Willows rated Good

I was delighted to read the draft report about the council’s home at the Willows and that the council’s team has received a well-earned ‘good’ rating from the Care Quality Commission.  I wrote to them to offer my congratulations privately but now we can congratulate them publically. The CQC particularly praised the staff for providing caring, respectful and courteous support

Like the rest of the country, Reading faces huge challenges to ensure we can all live fulfilling lives regardless of our needs and the government’s cuts and changes to the NHS are going to cause further issues. Despite this the council is committed to providing the high quality care service people deserve.

As a side point it’s worth noting that every Reading Borough Council Adult Social Care service inspected by the CQC under it’s new rating regime has received a good.

Extract from council press release:

THE SERVICE at The Willows care home in South Reading has been rated good by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
The Willows on Hexham Road, offers both a specialist dementia unit providing care and accommodation for up to 16 people and an intermediate care service comprised of 14 reablement places, which can provide up to six weeks intensive therapy for people following an injury or illness.
The inspection, which took place on 14th December 2015, found the council run service was offering safe, caring, responsive and effective support, combined with quality management. The report set out the stringent levels of health and safety procedures carried out at the care home.
The CQC report highlighted the work of the staff. Inspectors said: “Staff were caring, kind, respectful and courteous. They knew people well and realised how each person preferred to be treated.”
Inspectors said of the Willows: “We observed that the culture of the organisation was one of openness and sound values based on people’s welfare being of greatest importance. This was confirmed by the staff, people and their relatives.”
A relative praised the Willows and said “It has brilliant staff and mum is safe with them, I have been coming here for two years.”
