Lots of us look for a new start in the New Year in one way or another, but there are some young people in Reading who definitely need help with a new start. I am privileged to know some amazing foster carers including a very good friend who makes a massive difference to young people whether they stay with her for just a few weeks or for years.
What the foster carers I know have in common isn’t whether they are single or couples, whether they are gay, straight, their race, whether they are home owners, or what class they are. What they have in common is the difference they are willing to make: foster carers can really help young people at a difficult point in their lives and do our town proud.
But we need more people to help our young people needing care to stay local. Could you be one of those people? The council has put out an appeal below or there is more on their facebook page:
READING Borough Council is appealing for people who may be interested in fostering to make contact this New Year.
Right now in Reading, the Council needs foster carers who reflect our children and young people. There are babies, young children, siblings and teens who all need a stable and secure home.
Foster carers can be single or couples of any gender. People don’t need to own their own home and foster carers can work alongside the Council’s fostering service to provide the care that is needed. It’s what foster carers can offer a child that matters to the Council.
Foster carers in Reading receive training and mentoring and the backing of professionals and experts, as well as being part of a supportive network of local carers.
