Geoffrey Field Junior School Achieves ‘Good’ Ofsted Rating

Reading Borough Council Press Release

GEOFFREY FIELD Junior School is celebrating a positive Ofsted report after it was awarded a ‘good’ rating.

The Exbourne Road school was graded ‘good’ in all assessed categories: achievement of pupils; quality of teaching; behaviour and safety of pupils and leadership and management.

The report praises the school’s progress in mathematics as being “outstanding” and notes that “pupils’ reading skills are “very well developed”.

Inspectors found that teaching across the school is “good and sometimes outstanding” and “gets the best out of all pupils”. The children are praised for responding in class with “eagerness and enthusiasm” as they “soak up learning.” They are reported to show “great enjoyment of school”, to “behave well” and to be keen to get on with their work.

The report also highlighted the “well-targeted support” for disabled pupils and those with special educational needs which “enables them to overcome many of their personal challenges and make the same good progress as their classmates.”

The report recommends that the school bring achievement in writing in line with mathematics and reading to help achieve an outstanding rating at the next inspection.

The school’s Headteacher, Mr Charlie Clare said:

“I’m delighted that the report praises highly so many exceptional things about our school and what shines through the whole of it is how hard our children work, how well they behave, and how highly motivated they are by demanding and exciting lessons provided by exceptional staff, both teachers and teaching assistants.

“Outstanding progress in mathematics, our “university” afternoons and sport all are spoken of very highly.”

Reading’s Lead Member for Education, Councillor John Ennis added:

“Geoffrey Field Junior School has been a consistently good school and I know how hard staff, pupils and governors work to maintain these high standards.

“I’d like to congratulate them on this extremely positive Ofsted report and continue to offer the Council’s support as they work towards an outstanding rating.”
