THE PHYSICAL Disability and Sensory Needs (PDSN) network is helping people to keep healthy and active through a free information event on Wednesday 19 February, 10 am – 1 pm in the Kennet Room of the Civic Centre.
The ‘Healthy Mind and Body’ information session will provide practical advice and free health checks – including screening for blood pressure – for people with physical disabilities and sensory needs.
Reading Borough Council and partners will speak on a wide range of health issues including: finding ways to manage stress and anxiety; assessing care needs in order to help people live independently and cope with illness; and services for people with visual and hearing impairment.
A co-ordinator from the Council’s ‘Everybody Active’ initiative will also talk about the benefits of cycling.
“Even small lifestyle changes can make a big difference to peoples’ health, and this event will provide some important pointers on how keeping physically and mentally active help people with physical disability and sensory needs live fulfilling lives. Under Labour the council is committed to working with community groups like the PDSN group to make Reading a better place for us all.
The PDSN Network is an organisation made up of adult social care service users, carers, representatives from national charities and local user-led organisations. Their aim is to improve the quality of life for people with physical disabilities, neurological conditions and sensory loss.
If you are interested in future meetings they take place four times a year alongside special events and conferences focusing on issues of particular interest or concern for people with physical and/or sensory disabilities and their carers.
The ‘Healthy Mind and Body’ event is free and no booking is necessary. BSL interpreters will be present to sign for the whole event. For more information, please call 0118 937 2383 or email pdsn@reading.gov.uk.
