New Older People’s Social Club Coming to Southcote

Reading Borough Council Press Release

READING Borough Council is opening a new social club for older people in Southcote.

Attendees can enjoy lunch, hot drinks and cakes at the free launch event on Monday 2nd February, 1.00-4.00pm at Southcote Community Centre.

This new club follows the success of similar groups for the over 50’s in Caversham and is a friendly, accessible place for older people to meet, make new friends and take part in activities including prize bingo, quizzes and a raffle. The Club’s programme will adapt to incorporate ideas and suggestions from attendees and is scheduled to run every Monday.

Rachel Eden, Reading’s Lead Councillor for Adult Social Care said:

“I am very excited to see another older people’s social club opening in Reading.

“At a time when funding is down but demand is rising, the Council is working closely with residents to continue to provide the services that are needed and which enable older people to live fulfilling, independent lives in their own community.”

For information on services and activities for older people throughout the Borough, please visit http://servicesguide.reading.gov.uk or call Michelle Brown on 07834 335103 or Sarah Hunneman 07580 870945.
