Event Focuses on Leisure Activities for People with Disabilities

Reading Borough Council Press Release

Reading’s Physical Disability and Sensory Needs (PDSN) Network is hosting a free event on leisure activities for people with physical disabilities, sensory impairments and neurological conditions.

Chair of the Network, Simone Illger, said:

“The theme for our Autumn event on 19th November is ‘Leisure and Sports Activities’. The programme includes a talk by an artist from the Mouth and Foot Painting Association (MFPA) as well as representatives from Berkshire PHAB and SportsAble. We are keen to ensure our events are more interactive so there’s also an opportunity to participate in some craft activities, join in discussion groups and find out how you might take up a new leisure or sports activity.”

The event will also provide an opportunity for attendees to air their views on current sports and leisure provision in Reading for disabled residents and highlight where they feel there may be areas for improvement.

Mrs Illger adds:

“This is a great opportunity for people with an interest in physical disability, sensory needs and neurological conditions to have their voices heard. There is a commitment to ensure that service users are part of developing future provision in Reading.”

Lead Member for Adult Social Care, Cllr Rachel Eden, said

“Accessible enjoyable leisure activities are important to us all. This should be a great event and I’d encourage anyone who would like to find out more to come along. The council is committed to working in partnership with the Physical Disability and Sensory Needs network to make Reading a better place everyone.”

The event takes place on Wednesday 19th November 2014 from 10.30 am – 1 pm and takes place in The Kennet Room, Civic Centre, Reading, RG1 7AE.

Refreshments and Lunch provided. BSL interpreters have been booked for the event.
