Reading Borough Council to Run Adult Sensory Needs Service

Reading Borough Council Press Release
A SUPPORT service for people with visual or hearing needs is being integrated into Reading Adult Social Care Services from 1 August.
The move from current supplier Optalis will allow for a more co-ordinated, localised and cost efficient Adult Sensory Needs Service.
The Council has offered all Optalis staff jobs in the new team to help retain key skills and allow for consistency and continuity.
The change will be of particular benefit to service users who have other care and support needs as they will now only have one point of contact and a single assessment for all their social care requirements.
Cllr Rachel Eden, Lead Member for Adult Social Care said:
“The Council provides quality services to support and empower Reading residents to live fulfilling lives. By bringing Adult Sensory Needs in-house, residents will receive an enhanced, more cost effective service.
“The level of support – including assessment, equipment provision, advice and sign-posting – will not change. Reading will continue to provide a professional and caring service committed to a better experience for residents with visual or hearing needs.”
The Council is holding the following meetings to answer questions and gather feedback on how support services for people with sensory needs can be developed and enhanced:
1st July, 11am – 12 noon
Reading Blind Centre
Reading Association for the Blind (RAB), Walford Hall, Carey Street, Reading RG1 7JS
4th July, 2.00pm – 4.00pm
Older Peoples’ Working Group
Civic Offices, Kennet Room, Reading RG1 7AE
