Reading Council Care Home Rated Good by Care Quality Commission Inspectors

THE SERVICE at Focus House in Castle Street has been rated good by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
Focus House supports people with mental illness to return to independent living. It has facilities for 7 individuals, although is currently supporting 5 people.
The inspection, which took place in July, deemed the Council run service as offering safe, caring, responsive and effective support. The CQC report highlighted the work of the staff and the support offered to people who are preparing to take up their lives in the community again.
The inspectors said: “We observed good caring practice by the staff. People using the service said they were very happy with the support and care provided.”
Rachel Eden, Lead Councillor for Adult Social Care, said:
“Like the rest of the country, Reading faces huge challenges to ensure we can all live fulfilling lives regardless of our needs. The Council is committed to providing the high quality care service people deserve.
“I’m delighted to hear the Focus House team has received a well-earned ‘good’ rating from the Care Quality Commission and I have personally written to them to offer my congratulations. The rating is testament to the hard work of all the staff, who provide a safe, effective and supportive service for residents.”

Following recent inspections, 33 of these care homes and agencies supporting people in their own homes have been rated as Good, 28 have been rated Requires Improvement, three have been rated Inadequate.
