Action-Packed Summer in Store for Young People in Reading

21/07/2014
Reading Borough Council Press Release

YOUNG people in Reading can enjoy sport, arts, cookery and day trips throughout the summer.

The supervised activity sessions are either free or low cost to help take the heat off families looking for ways to fill the school holidays.

Reading FC’s Community Trust Kicks Project offers more than just football, with activities including boxercise, paintballing and cheerleading scheduled for throughout the summer. Kicks are also organising a West End trip to see the Lion King and a chance to ride the white knuckle roller coasters on a day trip to Thorpe Park

Dynamic sport sessions from the Council’s Youth Engagement service include free running, skateboarding, kayaking, mountain biking and basketball. The Service will also run sewing, cooking and origami sessions as a creative way to while away long summer days.

Lead Member for Children’s Services, Cllr Jan Gavin said:

“The summer holidays should be fun, but I know that parents worry about how much it will cost them to keep the kids entertained.

“This summer activity programme provides such a wide range of free and low cost options that will encourage young people to try new pastimes, keep them fit and active and help them to enjoy their time off school.”

Sport and activity sessions are taking place throughout the Borough. Many are free with some charging a small fee, and are open to everyone aged 11-19 from any part of Reading. Membership/consent forms must be completed with the relevant youth group before participation in their activities.
