I’m delighted to be able to share that Reading Borough Council’s service at 188 Whitley Wood Lane – Respite Care for residents with learning disabilities has been once again been rated ‘Good’ by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
“Like the rest of the country, Reading faces huge challenges to ensure we can all live fulfilling lives regardless of our needs. Despite this the Council is committed to providing the high quality care service people deserve.
I will be writing to the team to offer my congratulations. The rating is testament to the hard work of all the staff, who provide caring and dignified support.
188 Whitley Wood Lane is a registered care home providing respite care for up to 6 people at any one time, who have a learning disability and live with family or carers on a permanent basis. People stay at the service for short periods of time depending on their need. There are currently 20 people using the service on a regular basis.
The inspection, which took place on 7th and 10th November 2017, found the council run service was offering safe, caring, responsive and effective support, combined with quality management. The service was also rated ‘Good’ in its previous inspection in November 2015.
The CQC report highlighted the work of the staff in treating people with dignity and respect.
Inspectors said: “The staff team were caring and respectful and provided support in the way people preferred. People’s rights to confidentiality, dignity and privacy were respected. People were enabled and encouraged to develop and maintain their independence wherever possible.”
