Stabbings in Forbury Gardens

As Reading’s Labour Councillors we are united in grief that this tragedy could happen in the diverse, vibrant, welcoming town that we call home:

We are shocked and saddened by the tragic stabbings in Forbury Gardens on Saturday evening which have resulted in the deaths of three people and serious injury to three more. Forbury Gardens is a beautiful and historic park in the heart of Reading town centre where local people have long enjoyed gathering peacefully.
Reading Labour Councillors offer our sincere condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in these dreadful circumstances. Our best wishes go to the injured who are still receiving hospital treatment. Our thoughts too are with those were at Forbury Gardens last night who witnessed these frightening events and indeed with everyone who is affected.
Thank you to our brave and dedicated police officers who are willing to put themselves in danger on our behalf to protect us. We are very grateful to the paramedics and ambulance workers including air ambulance crews and hospital staff who battled to save the lives of victims and to treat the injured.
Reading is a wonderful, diverse place with an incredibly strong sense of community. Thousands of people enjoy relaxing safely in our parks and gardens every day. We all feel a sense of shared tragedy that this could happen in the town that we love. It is with that strength of community and in a spirit of solidarity that we will face this.
