Supporting our community as Deputy Mayor

While I’m looking forward to supporting the Mayor this is at a hugely difficult time for us all.
I am sure that we are all incredibly proud of the way that people from across our town have come together as we go through this crisis – from NHS staff and care workers, to shop workers, and council staff doing vital services like refuse collection as well as the people keeping their small business going.

I know I’ve been impressed by the volunteers doing everything from befriending to delivering shopping as well as our young people continuing to work hard despite not being able to attend school or college.
Reading is a wonderful place where we celebrate our diversity and we all have a part to play. Over the course of the next year we will need to really show the collective strength we have. We’ll need to continue to tackle the pandemic, remember the victims and make sure we build a better future for our town.
Whether you’re involved in the voluntary sector, a faith or community groups, whether you represent a trade union, public service or business group you are part of what makes our town special. So thank you and – as soon as we can – I look forward to seeing you this year.
